Why is it said that boron nitride powder can be used in insulation materials?
Boron nitride (BN) powder can be applied in insulation materials for several reasons:
Low thermal conductivity: Boron nitride exhibits extremely low thermal conductivity. Its thermal conductivity is approximately 1/7th that of steel and 1/2nd that of silicon carbide. This property effectively inhibits heat conduction, making it a good insulation material.
Excellent chemical stability: Boron nitride demonstrates good chemical stability at high temperatures, resisting oxidation, corrosion, and other forms of degradation. This allows it to maintain insulation performance over extended periods in high-temperature environments.
Outstanding high-temperature performance: Boron nitride possesses excellent high-temperature performance, maintaining structural and chemical stability even at elevated temperatures. Thus, it is suitable for insulation requirements in high-temperature environments, such as thermal protection in aerospace applications.
Abrasion and corrosion resistance: Boron nitride exhibits good resistance to abrasion and corrosion, resulting in longer service life and sustained insulation effectiveness in complex environments.
Lightweight: Compared to some traditional insulation materials, boron nitride is relatively lightweight, reducing structural burden and facilitating its application.
